9 months
July 12th, 2010 by Matushka DanielleMartha’s nine month well visit went pretty well. Two weeks ago at the time of the checkup she was 16 lbs and 27 inches. No doubt she has grown since then. She has caught up from being a preemie and her numbers put her right in the 50 percentile for weight and a little above 50% for height. Looks like she’ll be tall like her Dad in addition to having his coloring.
She continues to develop on her own little time schedule. She still isn’t crawling, although at this point I really wouldn’t be surprised if she skips crawling altogether and goes right to walking. She sort of scoots around on her belly or rolls to get where she wants to go. Or she crawls backwards. She’s just figured out how to get from all fours to sitting. She can stand for brief periods with minimal support.
Meal time has become pretty fun. We got a super cool high chair courtesy of my parents. That part is mostly fun for me. Martha has fun feeding herself finger foods. She has the pincher grasp down and likes cheerios. Since it’s peach season, she’s really into peaches and can devour about 1/3 to 1/2 of a small peach in one sitting. Also discovered she loves tofu. Tofu is pretty much the perfect baby finger food. Extra firm stays together well enough that it’s easy to grab, but mushes easily in her mouth. It’s healthy, packed with protein, and the only preparation is cutting it into baby sized pieces. When she’s not feeding herself, she’s figured out how to open wide and then close so I can feed her with a spoon.
Teeth have finally appeared. One of the bottom ones broke through the gum yesterday and the other is shortly to follow. Thankfully teething really hasn’t been bad. I can tell she’s a little uncomfortable because she fusses and whines about things that ordinarily wouldn’t bother her. She’s also more tired and a little less active. But overall, she’s taking it in stride.
And I hesitate to mention it in case I jinx it, but Martha is now a pretty good sleeper. We generally get 2 naps a day. One in the morning and one in the afternoon/early evening. They generally last 2-3 hours each. And at night she usually sleeps 10 to 12 hours. Sometimes getting her to sleep is a trial–once or twice a week we’ll have a day with only one nap because it takes too long to get to sleep and we just run out of time to take the second one–but once she gets to sleep she tends to stay there for an appropriate amount of time.
In day to day life, things are going well and I’m really happy.
