4 months

January 25th, 2010 by Matushka Danielle

Martha turned 4 months old yesterday and went for her 4 month checkup today. She’s 9 lbs. 22.5 inches and her head is 15 inches. A very well proportioned, albeit petite baby.
I told Dr R about her bowel movement (or lack thereof) woes. He said it’s pretty common in breastfed babies to suddenly stop having regular daily bowel movements for a couple of months. Then their little systems change again and they go back to daily. He said the prune juice every couple of days is fine. I can also let her try some solids between now and her 6 month visit. He suggested one fruit and one grain.
We talked about sleeping. He said if she’s sleeping during the night (she is when her digestive system doesn’t bother her) I probably shouldn’t rock the boat on naps. So we’ll go back to letting her sleep in the sling.
And she’s not teething despite drooling and chewing on fists.(or maybe she is teething, but she’s not cutting teeth) Apparently those two little white dots are just bumps on her gums and I’d be able to feel real teeth if they were there.
Today’s grumpiness is partly caused by the shots, I’m sure, but she’s been so grumpy for the past week, that this is just more of the same thing on a different day. I really hope restoring naps will make things better and everything sorts itself out soon. I can’t take much more. When she’s grumpy she doesn’t want to be held, but she’s even more upset if you put her down. She won’t suck on my finger and pulls of if we try to nurse. She stiffens her little body and throws her head back and yells. Or she thrashes around. I just fought to get her into the sling…I mean really fought. Like I was beginning to worry about hurting her. But as soon as she got into the sling she quieted down and was asleep in 5 minutes.
Lord have mercy.

And this too shall pass. I promise. Perhaps not as quickly as one might wish, but it will. So glad that Peepers is growing and healthy, even if she is small. Sending sunshine!
