In light of the teething, I’ve modified the sleep training. I’m still going to put her in the pack&play for naps, but when she wakes up, I’ll carry her. It will probably take longer this way, but she’ll hopefully still get the idea that her room and the pack&play are good places to nap while also getting the sleep she needs.
Oddly enough she’s sleeping better and better at night. The past three nights she’s fallen asleep on her own. Granted, she was *extremely* drowsy, but all three nights the little eyes came open as I put her into the crib and then closed again. Two of those nights she slept for 8 hours straight. The first time she did that was very scary for me. She had gone to sleep around 9 as usual and around 1am I heard her beginning to stir. Knowing I had about 30 minutes before she was really awake enough for her middle of the night feeding, I fell back asleep. When I woke up I knew I’d been asleep way more than 30 minutes. I looked at the clock and it was around 5am. Trying not to panic, I got out of bed and went over to the crib. She was fast asleep. Then I had the dilemma of “do I wake her up or not?” I opted to let her sleep and she woke up herself a little later.
So once she went for that 8 hour stretch, I thought I could probably experiment with comforting her in the crib without picking her up. So two nights ago when she woke up in the middle of the night I just gave her my finger to suck (she still won’t take a pacifier) and she instantly settled down and fell asleep again. Last night when I tried it, she settled down, but she let me know she was hungry. I feel like I’m finally getting a handle on the night sleeping habits and needs. I’m still a pretty light sleeper, but it’s wonderful not to be awakened every 3 hours.
Today we also began housework. With Peeps not feeling well, it was an easy excuse not to clean, and I’d really let the house get out of hand. Dust bunnies everywhere.
